We train Romanian vets on pain-free surgical procedures through HSUS and the Mayhew Animal Home in London. We provide funds for veterinary care of animals whose owners cannot afford such care. We run foster homes in the city of Galati for animal care. Founded in January of 2003, the Romania Animal Rescue, Inc. has had but one agenda: Saving animals in Romania through values, education, and kindness. RAR was started as a result of a hiking trip by three friends to Romania in 2001. Nancy Janes, Susan Rubio and Lynn Pelletier were appalled at the condition of the hundreds of street dogs roaming every city and town in Romania. Many citizens of the country were visibly upset also, and we, the hikers, had the opportunity to speak with many compassionate Romanians as we would feed animals we came across daily. One young girl in particular put it this way, “Everyone says they are going to help our dogs…then they go home and forget about Romania’s dogs”. This broke Nancy Janes heart, and she promised her new friend to help the animals when she returned home – and kept that promise by incorporating the Romania Animal Rescue, Inc., now a United States 501(c)3 non-profit. In the past two years, we have helped establish one of the best shelters in Eastern Europe, and have helped countless dogs and cats. We have a trusted vet that we work with exclusively, along with buying Romanian products when available, to promote the fact that animal well-being enhances human well-being.
