Through its mission, the House of Ruth offers women with children a caring and supportive environment in order to help them transition to long-term self-sufficiency. The four key goals of the House of Ruth are to provide homeless women with children a safe and secure transitional shelter that promotes their physical and emotional well-being; to provide them a comprehensive array of services that include counseling, schooling, vocational training, and medical care; to help them find stable employment; and, to place them in permanent housing. Los Angeles House of Ruth, a 501(c)3 nonprofit shelter, was started in 1978 with the goal of helping homeless families achieve a self-directed life with safe and secure housing, food, income, and independent living relationships. Starting as a 4-bed shelter, the shelter has expanded to consist of three houses located in the same neighbor hood with 49 beds. Each year, the House of Ruth serves more than 140 women and children. Additionally, we provide emergency food and clothes to more than 50 families, case management services to more than 40 families, and referrals for emergency services to over 500 people. | |
