Murphy and Julie Karges founded this organization in April of 2002. Murphy is a bass player for the band Sugar Ray. Ryan Michael Bates, a 16-year-old music fan from Huntington Beach, California who lost his battle against cancer in December of 2001, inspired Murphy to start this organization. “In his honor, we want to bring the joy of music to kids who are struggling with illness or hardship.” Music for a Cure raises money through fundraisers to give tocritically ill children at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, UCI’s University Children’s Hospital and Orangewood. Music for a Cure’s goal is to give to the children who need it the most. We want to keep the child’s mind off of the illness with which they are struggling. Whether it is bringing them a portable CD player with CD’s or providing an instrument with music lessons. Whatever it may be, it is our passion to bring a smile to these children’s faces. | |
