Our consumers include those who have cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, post-polio syndrome, and people who have acquired their disability through injury, or have experienced a stroke. Ontario March of Dimes provides a variety of services to almost 25,000 people annually in 70 locations across the province, to address the changing needs of people with physical disabilities. We help people find jobs, acquire wheelchairs and other assistive devices, provide recreation programs to those who are socially isolated, and so much more. Services include: - AccessAbility® Services provide people with physical disabilities greater independence by improving individual mobility and increasing community accessibility. - Employment Services assist people with disabilities in preparing for work, overcoming employment barriers, and returning to the workforce. - Independent Living Services enable adults with physical disabilities and/or acquired brain injuries to live independently in their own places or residence through a variety of non-medical community-based services. - Conductive Education® is an innovative learning system that teaches people with physical disabilities to become more mobile and independent. - Post-Polio Program increases awareness of post-polio syndrome (PPS) among polio survivors and health care professionals. - Stroke Recovery Network® provides post-recovery support, education and research to stroke survivors, their families and health care providers. - Recreation and Integration Services enhance the quality of life for people with physical disabilities through recreation activities, friendship opportunities and social integration. - Information & Advocacy Services promotes public policy initiatives through education and advocacy and stewards corporate partnership, as well as providing information on rehabilitation, accessibility and disability issues. | |
