The Center opened in 1987 when three families decided to create the best possible environment to maximize the developmental potential for their children with Down syndrome. With very limited funds and equipment available, the Center began with three children, one teacher and two volunteers. 15 years later, The Center’s mission remains the driving force behind the successful educational rewards families’ experience. The importance of these critical early years in a child’s development is the driving force behind the committed staff of 27, along with three teachers provided by The Brevard Public School System, and therapists from Health First Pediatric Rehab. The daily experience provides specialized, developmentally appropriate practices that build on the child’s unique needs while not rushing a child to compromise their long-term development. From Titusville to Palm Bay… we will go to various settings to share training and ideas on what can work best for children with special needs. - SCEIC will continue to offer our Center as a model where high school and college level students preparing for a future in education can experience inclusion and quality early childhood experiences first hand. - SCEIC supports and encourages day-to-day parent/child contact, parent involvement in school operations, and provides comprehensive parent education components. - Our wonderful outdoor handicapped accessible playground, is the most complete and comprehensive site for children with disabilities in the county… Staffed and open on weekends for all children and families who live in our community. Education is receiving significant attention today from many sources. Changes and shifts in priorities can affect our children. More children with developmental delays are entering preschools and childcare settings within our community.
