Detailed Description: Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Los Angeles operates three primary programs:

Our flagship program offers Big Brother and Big Sister mentors to boys and girls ages 6 - 18, primarily from disadvantaged, single parent homes, in a culturally Jewish context. Volunteers become caring, adult friends who bridge the gap that exists when there is no positive role model in a child's life. Bigs and Littles see each other at least twice per month in one-to-one or group activities of their choosing that fall within our broad guidelines of acceptability.

Camp Max Straus offers both Jewish and multi-racial, non-denominational programming year-round. The camp is owned and operated by Jewish Big Brothers of LA since 1938. Each summer approximately 900 children between the ages of 7 and 13, who have special social, emotional, or physical needs are provided with a traditional one or two-week residential camping experience at Camp Max Straus.

Sports Buddies is a seasonal, group mentoring program for at-risk, inner-city children ages 7 – 13 that enables children to experience positive relationships with peers and adults through the medium of noncompetitive sports. Staffed by responsible adult volunteers, the children learn and subsequently demonstrate the skills necessary for self-respect, integrity and positive peer relationships. The program is divided into 3 seasons: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each season includes five Sunday activity sessions, and mentors and children must commit for all five dates in order to participate in the season.

Our Scholarship Program, established in 1990, offers financial assistance to motivated and deserving former Little Brothers, Little Sisters and participants in the Camp Max Straus Witherbee Wilderness program who are pursuing their goals of post-secondary education. Awards are based on the scholar's needs, ability to succeed and commitment to community service.
