CASA serves those children by recruiting, training, and supervising adult volunteers who are appointed by a juvenile court judge to speak for the best interests of the child, as well as aid the judge in finding the child a safe, permanent home. Additionally, as each CASA child progresses through the foster care process, their volunteer advocate may be the only person who remains constant in their life. The need for CASA volunteers in our community is ever present. There are close to 6,000 children in the Alameda County foster care system. Typically, the most complicated cases are referred to CASA. Although we have approximately 188 active volunteers, there are approximately 300 children still waiting for a volunteer.
