The group was created in 1995 with 25 of the old time performers, and we now know where over 225 people who worked in burlesque are. If it were not for burlesque we would not have: Abbott & Costello; Phil Silvers; Ed Wynn; Robert Alda; Bert Lahr; Red Buttons; Jackie Gleason and of course Gypsy Rose Lee. The history these performers and thousands of others MUST be preserved. This is as American as Baseball and Apple Pie. But we need help! We want to create an archives, with a database, so those who contact the group in search of information will find the collections material easier to access. Help us preserve this history. We need donations which include: monetary funding, equipment, and also donations of burlesque materials. We also mail out quarterly newsletters which keep the old time performers connected, but these newsletters also educate those who are interested in the history. We also want to find more of the old time performers and get them reconnected with old friends. What we have found is that many of these seniors feel isolated...we need to find them and reconnect them with others from the golden days of burlesque. | |
