LVA-PW maintains a core of about 100 students per year in this manner – many in need of the most basic literacy reading skills. These services are individualized and students set the goals to be accomplished whether it be to read a book to a child, study for a driver’s license test, study a job manual, begin to prepare for a GED, write a resume, or write a check. The second most utilized literacy service is the ESOL program. This program was initiated about two years ago to meet the needs of the ever-growing immigrant influx. Initially, the basic literacy and ESOL programs were limited to one-on-one instruction, but have expanded to include small group instruction (6 or less students) due to the demand for services. LVA-PW has partnered with and receives support from local county schools, libraries, businesses, organizations, and corporations to provide literacy services to the community. | |
