Kidney cancer is two times more common in men than women. Every day there are new advances in the fight against cancer, but there need to be more. There are about 30,000 cases of kidney cancer diagnosed each year. Clearly, the incidence of kidney cancer is rising, and with the aging of the baby boomer generation, it likely will for the foreseeable future. There are several types of kidney cancer that typically are almost always treated first by removing the tumor. Surgery is often followed by other therapies, particularly if the cancer has spread. The Kidney Cancer Association helps kidney cancer patients, survivors, families and physicians by focusing its energy and resources in three primary areas: research; education; and advocacy. This is a sampling of the programs in place: * The International Kidney Cancer Symposium is held for scientists and physicians who are involved in clinical and research aspects of renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).
