While there is certainly no shortage of theatre in New York these days, our current political and economical climate seems to be causing many theatre artists to "play it safe". Where are the risk takers who form opinions and challenge their audiences? Themantics wants to change all that. We want our audiences to question our plays, question each other and most importantly, question our society. To accomplish this, each season will be dedicated to a theme or an issue to examine from different perspectives. Truly great theatre has always been created as a response to the current social and political climate. It is in this context, that Themantics will choose its seasonal theme and relevant productions. By encouraging patrons to see every show each season, Themantics hopes to broaden its audience's understanding of that year's theme and create discussion.
