Newborns in Need specializes in premature and newborn baby layettes, clothing, blankets, etc. We find the need, fill the need, and continue to fill the need as long as it exists, free of charge, as long as we have resources to do so. Each year thousands of babies are admitted for care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in hospitals. Due to the premature babies extremely small size there is a shortage of clothing tiny enough for them to wear. Also, many newborns are going home from the hospital without adequate clothing or blankets. The most heartbreaking service we provide is the beautiful, tiny burial layettes for the babies who unfortunately lose their struggle for life. OUR PURPOSE… The purpose of Newborns in Need is to solicit goods or money needed to make the items for the benefit of these sweet babies. We also coordinate work meetings and volunteer efforts in order to provide the items needed for our services. We host work meetings to make these tiny items. Many of our volunteers work from their homes. Monetary donations are applied to the purchase of materials used for the construction of items to be donated. OUR HISTORY… Newborns in Need was created on July 7, 1992, by Carol Green in Houston, MO. Since its inception, many businesses and individuals have responded to help us raise the quality of life for needy babies. We have a growing number of chapters throughout the United States, all trying to make a difference for these precious children. WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP… This is an ongoing need. Your donations of time, materials, and money can help us provide as the calls for certain needs come in. We need all types of fabric, ie: cotton, cotton blends, flannelette, lace, knits, etc., stuffing, batting, ribbon, thread, trims, smocking and quilting supplies, sewing notions, yarn, crochet cotton, etc. We are always looking for volunteers to sew, knit and crochet or lend a helping hand in other areas. We gratefully accept new and gently used infant clothing and blankets. Checks can be made payable to: Newborns in Need, Inc. A receipt can be given upon request.
