Detailed Description: Homes For Heroes' goal is simple and straightforward: to provide financial assistance to emergency services personnel across the country during times of documented, personal financial need.

This is one, small way to give back to those who we depend on to be there in our times of need. We hope to eventually have the resources to broaden our definition of "hero" to include other worthy individuals who have exhibited outstanding heroism and demonstrate financial need. An example would be the injured, good samaritan who needs financial assistance for uncovered medical bills.

The program is designed to be individualized, with the assistance provided determined on a case-by-case basis. Assistance is anticipated to be anything from help with overdue utility bills to help getting current on the mortgage.

Homes For Heroes believes that this "quick fix" is often all that is needed to prevent a temporary problem from becoming a long-term financial crisis.

A longer term goal is to not only be able to help with mortgage payments, but in special circumstances, such as when a hero has lost his home due to fire or storm damage, to build or renovate heroes' homes. Homes For Heroes' Executive Director's construction background will allow him to provide hands-on-oversight of construction contractors.

We have office space available and a qualified and committed board of directors in place. We are in the process of developing a web site and will have a survey available on the site to gauge community interest. The survey will also be mailed out to select individuals and organizations. We will publicize our services by sending out information to police departments, fire departments, and EMS departments throughout the country, and asking them to spread the word to other emergency service personnel.

We plan to hire a part-time secretary and two part-time staff members-- One for clerical duties, and one for financial duties. Fundraising events, public relations materials, and mailing lists will be developed. Staff members and the Board Of Directors will identify and seek out funding through grants and direct solicitations of charitable trusts, foundations, and private individuals, and strive to build long-term relationships.

An assistance application form will be created. When applications for assistance are received, documentation will be reviewed and information verified. Requests for assistance less than $2000 will be handled at the discretion of the Executive Director. Requests over $2000 will be presented to the Board of Directors for review. All monies will be paid directly to service providers, not the individual.

As mentioned previously, when funding levels permit, we hope to eventually expand our definition of hero to include anyone who has exhibited heroism in a time of need.
