U.S. Paralympics coordinates the preparation and selection of athletes to U.S. Paralympic Teams, both summer and winter, in conjunction with pertinent National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and other partner organizations. U.S. Paralympics also works with national and locally-focused sport organizations that offer Paralympic programs to children and other developing athletes. Through these efforts, U.S. Paralympics promotes Olympic ideals throughout the American population, especially among those Americans who have physical disabilities. The Paralympic Games offers competition to athletes who are blind or visually impaired, to athletes with amputated limbs or similar impairments, to athletes with spinal cord injuries and athletes who have motor impairments due to cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, or stroke. In certain sports, athletes with other physical disabilities may also compete. * DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE PARALYMPICS "Get Into the Game" is a social action campaign that uses the hit documentary "Murderball" to increase public awareness about people with disabilities and to raise funds for the U.S. Paralympics. "Murderball" documents the lives of tough, highly competitive rugby players who are also quadriplegic. Donations go to the U.S. Paralympics and help supply a sports wheelchair for an athlete in need.
