Q: Why donate to Charity Cars instead of the "other guys"?
A: The "other car donation guys" are almost always for profit companies running a car donations program for one or more charities. Usually, the for profit company retains the lion's share of the proceeds of the sale of the vehicles at auction, with the charity receiving in many instances, less than 10% of the donation. Charity Cars, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) non-profit charity and the first car donations charity of its kind in the nation that is dedicated to actually providing these donated vehicles to needy families. Vehicles which are not provided to recipients are disposed of at auction or salvage and 100% of the proceeds goes to Charity Cars, Inc.
Q: Will there be any cost to me?
A: No. Charity Cars will pay for the cost to tow your vehicle that is being donated to us.
Q: What can I donate?
A: Cars, vans, trucks, RV's, boats, heavy equipment, and real estate, as long as you have clear title and the vehicle is whole (not stripped of doors, hoods, etc.)
Q: Can I donate a vehicle that hasn't run in years?
A: Yes! Charity Cars will accept whole vehicles in any condition (Exceptions include older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing.)
Q: How long does it take to get my vehicle picked up?
A: The same day you provide our car donations representatives with your information, we will contact our towing service which will phone you within 24-48 hours to establish a convenient time to pick up your vehicle.
Q: Can this process be expedited?
A: In most instances, we are able to accommodate you if you need to have your car picked up sooner. Just explain the situation to our car donation representative.
Q: Is Charity Cars a non-profit organization?
A: Yes, Charity Cars, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and the IRS determination letter is available to the public. Federal ID #59-3362703.
Q: Is my car (or other vehicle) donation tax deductible?
A: Auto donations to Charity Cars, Inc. are tax deductible, but as with all questions regarding tax returns and deductions, you should consult your tax-advisor.
Q: Who determines what my donated vehicle is worth and how much is it worth?
A: Charities are not authorized to place a value on your vehicle donation. The value is to be decided by you and your tax-advisor. Call 1-800-CHARITY (1-800-242-7489) for additional information.
Q: Where do you pick up car donation vehicles?
A: Anywhere in the continental United States.

Vehicle Donations and The New Tax Law
Beginning January 1, 2005, new federal tax legislation governing vehicle donations went into effect. The following is a summary of the new legislation contained in (HR 4520).

* Based on the fact that the vast majority of donated vehicles are not eligible to be 'program' cars (Charity Cars bases its decisions on many factors including, but not limited to, year, make, model, mileage, condition, location, recipient, repair and funding limitations.) and since placing a vehicle with a client is the exception rather than the rule, donors should assume that their vehicle will be sold at auction or for salvage with the proceeds returning to Charity Cars, Inc. (unless notified in writing that their vehicle will be provided to a disadvantaged person). Although most of the vehicles donated are not of sufficient quality to be 'program' cars, Charity Cars appreciates each and every car donation as they all help to fulfill our missions!
