Take Action! was created by Hopeless/Sub City Records to create a better world, one voice and one Action! at a time.
Take Action! encourages awareness of social issues and activism in causes that create a positive change in our community. The Vans Warped Tour and Take Action! teamed up to bring visitors of the tour many ways they can get involved, learn and be exposed to non-profit organizations and social causes.
Charity.com had an opportunity to visit several Warped Tour venues to see first hand how the idea of merging today’s music and youth population can be integrated with exposure to the non-profit world and the important causes these organizations are trying to showcase. It’s not easy in our “over Madison Avenue advertised and information overload world”, but Take Action! and the Warped Tour try and do make a difference...and in a fun way.
Music and causes have seemingly always gone together in history, most recently Lollapalooza in the 1990’s. Thinking about music's influence with social issues, you can easily include awakening the people living behind the 'Iron Curtain' and communism in the 1980's as well as Woodstock and the anti-war protests of Vietnam. Music entertainment also had a social connection and influence in World War I and II, in ancient times and most likely ever since man created musical sounds with a stick and a rock.
Take Action! non-profit tents are set up at each Warped Tour venue so that fans, as they walk to the many stages and events will take notice, stop by and see what a particular non-profit organization is all about. Sometimes a fan walks away from the tent with important information they didn’t have before for themselves, a loved one, sometimes for their community. Often they then have the ability to make a difference by taking that information with them and spreading the word or just by the simple act of signing a petition.
Some organizations are focused on social causes, some political activism and some health awareness. Not every non-profit featured at Take Action! is meant to be for everyone, but at the 2006 Warped Tour and Take Action! non-profit area, there IS definitely something for everyone.
